'Proven musical phenomenon' coming to Peoria Civic Center in April

"Jesus Christ Superstar" is coming to the Peoria Civic Center Theater as part of the 2023-2024 Ameren Illinois Broadway in Peoria Series.

The musical − which features songs such as "Superstar" and "Gethsemane" − will bring its 50th anniversary tour to Peoria on April 16 at 7:30 p.m. and April 17 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the show can be purchased at the Toyota Box Office and through Ticketmaster. On Ticketmaster, tickets range from $65.80 to $145.75 after fees.

According to a news release from The American Theatre Guild, "'Jesus Christ Superstar'is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary series of events during the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of Judas." Jesus is played by Jack Hopewell and Judas is played by Elvie Ellis.

The release notes that the performance "is a proven musical phenomenon with a world-wide fan base."
